Install

Run npx uiskillbook get siteplane-command and follow the Siteplane Command skill it prints for this task.

Paste this into your agent.

Command lets people type to find and run one action out of many. Render it inline in a page or panel, or as a palette over the whole app. It fits power-user shortcuts, quick switchers and "go to" searches.

Install

bashnpx shadcn@4.18.0 add @siteplane/command

Import it from @/siteplane/components/command. The project needs Siteplane UI's one-time setup first: installation.

When to pick it

  • vs Menu: Pick Menu instead when the actions are few and fixed and scanning beats typing.
  • vs Autocomplete: Pick Autocomplete instead when the typed text fills a form field rather than triggering an action.
  • vs Dialog: Build palettes from the CommandDialog parts, which set the right size and label. Don't wrap Command in your own Dialog.

Rules

  • Give CommandInput an aria-label that names what it searches; the default only says it searches commands.
  • Render CommandEmpty to show a message when a search finds no match.
  • CommandShortcut only draws the hint. Register the key handler in your app.
  • Wire the global shortcut that opens the palette yourself, for example with CommandDialog and controlled open state.
  • Group related items with CommandGroup and CommandGroupLabel so long lists stay scannable.
